   Symphony in Harmony


    Sulthan Bathery is a Symphony in Harmony. A confluence of many religious streams, the people here has been exposed to the variants of avocations of God from different abodes of the almighty –the church bells of Assumption forane church, the Omkara Manthra from the Maha Ganapahty Temple and the invocation of God from the Mosque, the people live in harmony.

In ‘number of families, presence of religious congregations and monasteries’ , the Assumption parish tops the list among the best in class of Kerala.

Serving in a settlers’ region, the parish has families of various religious groups and sects in its limits. People from all corners of the state reside in the locality. Though an agrarian belt the families in the parish include farmers, traders, professionals and employees in both private and government sector.

With thriving business and multifarious agrarian activities the region is affluent. The culture of the region is a confluence of different religions. People speaking various languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi live here together.

 

    A Historical Journey


    With a history of more than a century, the Assumption Church at Sulthan Bathery is one of the oldest in Wayanad district. A witness to the flow of time, it was the French Missionaries who started the church in 1900, in the name of Holy Mother during the British rule under the Mangalore diocese. Later, the parish came under the Mysore Diocese. Since 1932, it came under the Kozhikode Diocese. Since the extension of the syro Malabar jurisdiction to Malabar region in 1953, bathery parish came under the Thallassery Diocese. Since, the erection of Mananthavady Diocese in 1973, the Assumption forane Church came under its jurisdiction. Counting 'the number of catholic families, the presence of religious congregations and monasteries', the Assumption parish tops the list among the best in parishes in Kerala and topmost in Mananthavady Diocese. Serving in a settlers’ region, the parish includes families of various religious groups and sects in its limits. People from all corners of the state reside in the locality.
